Encysted small strongyles can cause very big problems in horses. Fenbendazole, the active ingredient in Safe-Guard Power-Dose is the only one FDA-approved to treat all stages of encysted small strongyles and only Safe-Guard Power-Dose effectively controls all stages including EL3s. Manufacturer claims that Safe-Guard Power-Dose provides 98% reduction in encysted EL3s and as much as a 96% reduction in LL3/L4 populations. In contrast, Ivermectin products at the labeled dose, and at five times the labeled dose, have a more limited effect (0%-42% reduction) on EL3s and LL3/L4 stages. Safe-Guard 10% fenbendazole paste formula comes in 5 x 57 gram paste tubes packaged as one compete larvicidal dose. Administer one syringe for each 1,250 lbs of body weight per day for 5 consecutive days for control of encysted early third stage (hypobiotic), late third stage and fourth stage cyathostome larvae, and fourth stage larvae of Strongylus vulgaris. Great apple-cinnamon flavor ensures less waste. Perfect for debilitated or thin horses, incoming horses as a first step in a rotation program, competition horses 2 to 4 weeks prior to start of show season and before starting horses on a daily dewormer. May be recommended by your veterinarian if your horses experiencing chronic diarrhea or recurrent colic.
